The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
It is an understatement to say the film “Wonder” is wonderful. Based on a true story of a little boy who was born severely disfigured and had some twenty seven operations to survive. He has very loving parents who eventually take him to a middle school prep school. He is brilliant, but his features are challenging for many of his schoolmates. He gets to figure out how to navigate his way through all the rejection. It is by far the best movie of this season. I believe your life will be better for viewing it!
I was discussing with Lou Ann my enjoyment of evaluating films. I have always felt the term movie critic was self determining. The word itself defines the role of the person looking at the movie and describing it for potential viewers. And I have never been fond of these reviewers telling movie goers whether they should watch a film or not based on their ideas.
I would like to propose a new term. I am a movie advocate. I would only share with you movies that inspire and make a difference in my life. We also went to see Daddy’s Home II. While not as inspiring as Wonder it still has it’s moments. Of course it has lot’s of slapstick comedy and a large cast of talented actors. This film depicts two fathers sharing the raising of their children. The plot allows the unfolding of the characters genuine love for each other. You probably will laugh your gluteus maximus off. The film ends with the wonderful song. “Do They Know Its Christmas? that was performed in November of 1984 at the Band Aid concert to raise money for the starving people of Ethiopia. Here are the lyrics:
It’s Christmas time, there’s no need to be afraid
At Christmas time, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time
But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones
At Christmas time it’s hard
But when you’re having fun
There’s a world outside your window
And it’s a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing
Is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there
Are the clanging chimes of doom
Well, tonight thank God it’s them instead of you!
And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time
The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life (Ohoho)
Where nothing ever grows, no rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it’s Christmas time at all? (Oh)
(Here’s to you) Raise a glass for everyone
(Here’s to them) Underneath that burning sun
Do they know it’s Christmas time at all?
Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it’s Christmas time again
For Lou Ann and I it is the most wonderful time of the year. My wish for you is for you to enjoy it as well! From my holiday heart to yours, Thomas
