The Sweetness of Life
Lou Ann and I have been traveling down to Galveston Texas for the past thirty five years. We got married on December 31st 1982. We went down to Texas in October of 1983 and I officiated at Lou Ann’s youngest sister’s wedding. That is when I met most of Lou Ann’s family. On nearly all of our trips there, we stayed with Lou Ann’s younger sister Marilyn and her husband Jay Royer. We have camped out at their home and have been treated royally over the years. They have housed us, fed us, entertained us and have given unconditionally. We have been so blessed to be a part of their life. In a word, it has been sweet. There is no way we can ever thank them enough for their love and caring. They are two dear people!
I wish this kind of life experience for everyone. It is simple in concept. Just give from our hearts and everything else will work out. Let us all focus on the sweetness in life. We spend way too much time in judgment of each other. Let us give others the benefit of the doubt when they might not be feeling loved or loving. We have all been stuck in an emotional or mental space that does not serve us or others.
Let us continue to practice random acts of kindness. Here are a dozen to start doing:
1. Leave money on vending machine for someone
2. Bake cookies for the elderly
3. Serve at a homeless shelter
4. Do a 5k for a good cause
5. Help at a veterinarian office
6. Pick up litter on the beach
7. Let someone go in front of you in line
8. Give a stranger a compliment
9. Make dinner for a family in need
10. Insert coins into someone’s parking meter
11. Buy flowers to hand out on the street
12. Leave letters of encouragement on people’s cars
I believe with all my heart, that we can actually change our world and make it a more loving place by being kind. It doesn’t require a lot of money or time. It only requires us to show up and give when we can. From my very grateful heart to yours, Thomas
