Sharing
It’s Sunday night and I am sitting at the keyboard wondering what I might share with you this time. I really enjoy having current life experiences that remind me of another Universal Principle. I get a lot of inspiration from the movies I see and the books I read and the people I encounter in this wonderful place that we live.
I got to participate in a tennis tournament yesterday. There were twenty mixed doubles teams that played a round robin style event. Each team got to play four matches consisting of four games per match. I had a lady partner named Chris, who incidentally, lived in Warrenton, Virginia at the same time that Lou Ann and I did. We lived there between 2002 and 2009. Universe never stops amazing me with all of it’s purposeful connections in my life.
It was a wonderful synchronous partnering, which gave even more meaning to our matches. The folks playing yesterday were all competing for some cute prizes of Christmas sculptures. However, there was no intense competition. This is how it is, to play with the wonderful members at the Poco Diablo tennis club. We like each other and cheer each other on a lot. A lot of the players are involved in organizations that care for others less fortunate. I remember a line from a recent film which said “Caring for others reveals the best version of ourselves”. I believe that is true. We all need help from time to time and it feels good to give and receive love in this fashion.
I am reminded of the Christmas of 1962. I was still in the service and stationed in San Antonio Texas. It was right after the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was married to my first wife and we had one child Michael who just turned one. Sue was pregnant with our second child Deborah who was to be born just two weeks later. We were broke. We barely had enough money for food, much less presents. Then, a thirty dollar check came in the mail from my older brother Bob, who at that time, had never sent me a present before. We bought a one dollar Christmas tree, some food and a couple of presents. It felt like we had been given a fortune. I get a lump in my throat whenever I recall this amazing Christmas miracle in our life! I wish for all of you to receive all that your hearts desire this season. May you receive a miracle too! From my ever grateful heart to yours, Thomas
