Memories
Yesterday, we rearranged our bedroom. Put up new curtains and moved three dressers around. On top of each was a collection of figurines, pictures and momentos. As I was collecting the items so that I could move the furniture; I began to experience the memories these items evoked. I felt tears well up in my eyes. They were tears of happiness, gratitude and thankfulness. Our thirty-five year relationship is one of mutual love, engagement, passion, joy and magic. Lou Ann brings lots of magic to our life! On one dresser there is a heart shaped photo of Lou Ann and I at Disneyland next to a statue of Quan Yin. On another dresser, pictures of our five children, thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. They are surrounded by bunnies and dolphins and cherubs and angels. These are some of Lou Ann’s gifts to our home.
These items are symbols of the path we have traveled over the years. I realize that we are so fortunate to have made this journey together. Both of us cook and clean and work and volunteer and exercise and eat well. We encourage each other to live our dreams and follow our heart’s desire.
In our modern society we often depict life as too complicated, busy and challenging. I believe it helps to find the little treasures, share the simple moments and to look for the good in everything. I encourage everyone to stop and find items that bless your life experience, whether alone or with others. It is so important to take time each day and remember who we are and to celebrate it! From my happy heart to yours, Thomas
