Noel
Lou Ann and I and our house-mates Austin and Ashley watched a movie tonight titled Noel. It was a story of many different lonely people. The film weaves their complex life stories into a tapestry of caring, that arises out a deep need to be loved. There is a young man whose favorite Christmas was when he was 14 and got to spend the night at a hospital. There is a woman whose mom is in the later stages of Alzheimer disease. There is a couple and the man is a cop who is jealous of his wife’s beauty. There is an elderly man whose wife was killed long ago and claims that she has reincarnated in other people. There is an ex-priest who after twenty years in the clergy has lost his faith. You will have to watch the movie sometime, to see how it turns out.
As I was watching it, my mind went to the words of a wonderful song by the singing group America, that goes like this: This is for all the lonely people
Thinking that life has passed them by
Don’t give up
Until you drink from the silver cup
And ride that highway in the sky
This is for all the single people
Thinking that love has left them dry
Don’t give up
Until you drink from the silver cup
You never know until you try
Well, I’m on my way
Yes, I’m back to stay
Well, I’m on my way back home
This is for all the lonely people
Thinking that life has passed them by
Don’t give up
Until you drink from the silver cup
She’ll never take you down or
Never give you up
You’ll never know until you try
All of us can feel lonely and sometimes it can overwhelm us. The song encourages us to never give up until we drink from the silver cup. The silver cup is the chalice that predates the cup of Christ, the silver highway is the silver astral cord leading from this life to that which comes next. She “will never take you down or never give you up”, is a reference of how the Wiccans refer to the Goddess.
If you are feeling lonely this holiday season, please know that there are others who care deeply about you. LIfe has so much to offer each of us if we try. Let us be aware of one another and hold each other close, so we know we are loved and not alone. From my never quitting heart to yours, Thomas
