Make Someone Happy
Lou Ann and I watch the Hallmark television station. We watch all the romantic movies throughout the year. We especially love the Christmas movies, which we record and watch several times. The movies are sentimental, loving and follow a familiar theme of couples finding their life partner. The writing is corny and obvious. We have seen so many we could write them ourselves. It would be easy to be critical of the sameness of the plot and the writing. However, for us, the love shines through!
There is another series on the Hallmark channel called “Signed, Sealed and Delivered.” It has a whimsical story line of four United States Postal service employees. They work in the Dead Letter Office at the Denver Colorado postal facility. Their mission is to attempt to deliver packages and letters that have become undeliverable. They gave themselves the nickname “The Postables.”
The four workers head out of their office to deliver mail that can save lives, solve crimes, reunite old loves and change futures. The group includes leader and charming postal detective Oliver O’Toole, technophile Shane McInerney, free-spirited Rita Haywith, and master researcher Norman Dorman. Together, they work to get the mail to its destination, and although late, in some respects it often gets there at just the right time.
Lou Ann and I laugh at their antics and cry at their foibles and personal victories. I highly recommend you watching it, if you desire to have your heart warmed. The series was created by Martha Williamson who also created Touched by An Angel, so you know you will be inspired and shed some tears.
The episode tonight ended with the song “Make Someone Happy”. Here are the lyrics, it was first sung by Jimmy Durante in 1947.
Make someone happy,
Make just one someone happy;
Make just one heart the heart you sing to.
One smile that cheers you,
One face that lights when it nears you,
One girl you’re ev’rything to.
Comes and goes in a minute.
Where’s the real stuff in life to cling to?
Love is the answer,
Someone to love is the answer.
Once you’ve found her, build your world around her.
Make just one someone happy,
And you will be happy, too.
