Heart to Heart 301

The Soul of Money

The above, is a title of a book by Lynne Twist.  The subtitle reads “Reclaiming the Wealth of Our Inner Resources”.  Another book written by one of my greatest mentors is, Money and Beyond by Arnold Patent.  Many of us have a challenging relationship with money.  Some of us chase after it like it is the most important thing in life.  Some of us have negative training about our relationship with it.  Money is just a symbol of an exchange of energy.  We give our time and energy to create income and then we trade it for other things we perceive have value.  It isn’t good or bad.  It, or the love of it, are not the root of all evil.

I grew up like so many young people, in the nineteen forties. without a lot of money.  My father was an alcoholic and my mom worked underpaying clerical jobs, to support three young sons and her itinerant husband.  He hardly held a job because of his drinking, so cash flow was low most of the time.  I recall having to put cardboard in my shoes to cover the holes in the bottoms.  We lived in Hollywood, so there was a lot of affluence.  It was tough for a little boy not to see the difference and wonder why?  There was a local grocery store that had soft drinks sitting outside in cold water; I would take some without paying.

After I got out of the Air Force in 1963, I went to work for a national shoe company.  I was making $50,000 per year in the early seventies.  I was in line to become the president of a Fortune 100 company.  Universe interrupted and reminded me I was to follow my heart, to reconnect with the plan of my soul.  In the past thirty five years Lou Ann and I have earned a couple of million dollars and lost all of it as well.  In 2013 we were in Hawaii and had declared bankruptcy and had lost everything.  I said to her “We are like newlyweds; broke and madly in love.”

I have learned that things money can buy are of much less importance than the inner beauty and love that we all have inside.  So, if like me, you have had an up and down relationship with money, don’t let it derail you in any way.  We and all of creation, are beyond value.  We are priceless and great treasures of love, compassion and prosperity.  Arnold Patent once said “Abundance is the natural state of affairs of the Universe.  And we are that abundance.  If, right now, you are patching holes in your soles, remember there is no hole in you soul that needs fixing.  Let us love money and all of creation, for what it is and enjoy being wealthy in every way.  From my abundant heart to yours, Thomas
