“Terrible Twos”
Most parents know what our title means, especially if they had boys! Lou Ann and I went to a movie tonight at the Mary D Fisher theater here in Sedona. The movie title is “Dolphin Man” It is a story about a deep diver named Jacques Mayol. When he was 49 he dived down to 100 meters without any diving gear whatsoever. He is legendary among free deep divers.
The movie was also about dolphins whom Mayol loved. In 1994 Lou Ann and I went to the Dolphin Research Center on the Grassy Key in Florida. We had the honor to swim with two female dolphins named Aleita and Rainbow. While in the water we got to hold on to their dorsal fin and they took us for an amazing ride! After our experience we felt their energy and love for hours.
Lou Ann and I have had a morning ritual of me tossing stuffed toy dolphins we named Rainbow and Aleita and Lou Ann catching them. We bless them as Lou Ann places them on our bed pillows in the morning.
When we were in Hawaii, we went on a dolphin excursion off the Kona coast of the Big Island, where we lived for four years. I am not a good swimmer. The boat went far enough from shore that we were in ocean waters that were 12,000 feet deep. We came upon a school of Dolphins and almost everyone immediately jumped in the water to experience them. I tentatively lied down on a float and cautiously drifted from the boat. I was scared and tense. Then a large dolphin and a baby dolphin appeared below me with another adult dolphin. They floated right below me for several minutes. I finally began to relax and was aware that they sensed my fear. They did not leave me until I decided to paddle back to the boat.
After the movie tonight we were treated to a presentation by three dolphin experts. A lady named Linda Shay has written a book titled Dolphin Love…From Sea to Land. One of the other presenters said that the dolphin species are thirty million years old. He said the dolphins understand that the human race is still in it’s infancy, like being in our “terrible twos”. Well that explains a lot!
Linda Shay has a CD called Opening to Dolphin Energy. She says the dolphins wish to love, support and nurture us along our path of healing – and opening – our hearts. They wish for all of humanity, a life of freedom, harmony, love, joy, peace…and PLAY!
