Heart to Heart 439 Heroic Living

Posted on August 30, 2018

Heroic Living

Most people have heroes of some kind in their life.  In recent years there has been a lot of Hollywood blockbuster movies about old comic book heroes.  On Facebook every day there are dozens of real life heroes showing up in amazing ways that have a profound affect in our world.  I would like to speak tonight about the most important heroes in our own lives.  It is us.  Yes, we are all heroes.  The dictionary definition of hero is: a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

For some of us it is an effort to get out of bed and go to work.  We may have physical, emotional, mental or monetary challenges.  And somehow, we drag ourselves to be where we are expected.  We may be in a lot of pain and we still show up.  I call that heroic. We make thousands of choices in life.  Most are made without being conscious of doing so.  Some are vital life choices, where we choose between whatever we think we SHOULD do and what our heart is desiring of us.  It could be our daily tasks or our wildest dreams!

There are probably people all around us who are making heroic choices.  We don’t know what is inside each other’s hearts and souls.  Let us acknowledge that each of us is a hero in some way, in our own life.  Let us look at each other and take a moment and give each other a hug, handshake, smile or a nod.  And know that we are each the star of this song by Mariah Carey

There’s a hero
If you look inside your heart
You don’t have to be afraid
Of what you are
There’s an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

It’s a long road
When you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold
You can find love
If you search within yourself
And the emptiness you felt
Will disappear

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

Lord knows
Dreams are hard to follow
But don’t let anyone
Tear them away
Hold on
There will be tomorrow
In time
You’ll find the way

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
That a hero lies in you
That a hero lies in you

The song says it all.  We don’t have to look any farther than the nearest mirror to find our hero!  From my heroic heart to yours, Thomas
