Declaring Peace
Tonight, Lou Ann and I had the privilege of being in a sold-out Mary D. Fisher theater experience. We attended a concert by William Florian who was one of the members of The New Christy Minstrels back in the seventies. The concert was titled The John Denver Story. He sang several of Denver’s most popular songs. He invited the audience to sing along with him. It was so much fun!
At the end of the evening, he introduced us to a song he wrote called “I Declare Peace!” Here are the lyrics: If war was the answer, then we’d be at peace. And the battles in the distance would’ve all finally ceased. We still have a choice to live and be free. So let’s all raise our voice and become a planet of peace. The chorus goes: I’m declaring peace, I’m declaring peace, deep within myself, I’m declaring peace, I’m declaring peace!
In the middle of the concert, he sang a wonderful Christy Minstrels song called: Today
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
‘Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today
I can’t be contented with yesterday’s glory
I can’t live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment, now is my story
I’ll laugh and I’ll cry and I’ll sing
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
‘Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today
We only have today. Tomorrow is not promised. Yesterday is just a memory. Today is our moment to create peace by being peaceful. Today is our story of creating peace on Earth. Today, I am declaring peace within myself, won’t you join me? From my peaceful heart to yours, Thomas
