Simple Acts of Kindness
The tragic events in south Texas give rise to heroic acts of love and caring that might never have occurred without it happening. I admire all the pictures of these folks, many who have never met before, giving aid and comfort to each other. It is sad, in a way that it takes this kind of a tragedy to bring us close together. Maybe it might wake some of us up to the possibility of being this kind on a daily basis.
I know some folks who do simple acts of kindness that no one knows about. They always put back their shopping cart and more than that they get other scattered carts and return them to the cart storage area. When they drive their car they are thinking about other drivers and slow down or speed up so others can find their place in traffic. They hold open doors for others, even when the person is quite far from the door. They find out the names of those that serve them and remember their names. When they go to a potluck they take a portion that is adequate for others to have enough food as well.
I had a friend who once was late in remembering my birthday. She felt bad about it. For the next fifty two weeks in a row she sent me a “sorry I was late” birthday card. Every card was different and heartfelt! I know of a couple who had a friend in trouble and needed moral support. The couple paused every night at 8 pm to send love to their friend for 350 days in a row. These are all simple things that help the world be a better place. Let us all find ways to love and support each other every day. We don’t need a tragedy to show others how much we care! From my heart to yours, Thomas
