Time for Revolution
I just enjoyed watching a new film titled Happening-A Clean Energy Revolution. It is available on HBO if you want to see it. It was produced and directed by James Redford the son of Robert Redford. It is a clear documentary that shows how far we have come and how the world is turning to renewable energy. We still have a long way to go because the fossil fuel business is still entrenched. We are now winning the battle though.
In Buffalo New York they built the largest solar panel manufacturing plant in the western hemisphere. It is putting 3000 people back to work. At the Apple Corporation in 2016, 96 percent of the electricity used at their global facilities came from renewable energy, reducing their carbon emissions by nearly 585,000 metric tons. They’re 100 percent renewable in 24 countries — and all of Apple’s data centers. To go fully green, Apple has said it plans to “generate and source from more than 4 gigawatts of new clean energy worldwide by 2020,” according to a document released this month.
California has soaked up enough rays to generate 67.2 per cent of its energy from renewable sources last month, smashing previous records. When combining California’s largest grid with hydro-power facilities, renewable energy rose even further to 80.7 per cent of total energy generation on 13 May. Thanks to ample sunshine, full water reservoirs and more solar facilities, the California Independent System Operator, the largest grid in the state, beat previous records. California also set a new record on 16 May for wind power, producing 4,985 megawatts on one day. LEGO is now 100% renewable.
In Nevada, which tried to kill solar energy in 2015, they have passed nine new solar energy bills to bring back solar full time.
Now, in the state of Arizona, reports that the FBI is conducting an investigation into whether Arizona Public Service, one of the largest utility companies in the state, sought to influence the composition of the Arizona Corporation Commission, the regulatory body that oversees utility companies in the state. “The FBI is currently conducting a long-term investigation related to the financing of certain statewide races in the 2014 election cycle,” special agent Matthew Reinsmoen told the Arizona Republic in early June. The political action committee is not required to disclose its donors, but the FBI suspects some hanky panky took place. One of the members of the ACC is also suing his fellow members to force them to disclose their financial backers.
So, it is time for a revolution. Those of us who live in Arizona need to stand up and (march if necessary) and make the people on the Arizona Corporation Commission do what is right for the people of Arizona. Contact your local congress person and demand that you want Arizona to go 100% solar or renewable. We want to replace all fossil fuel energy and nuclear energy. There are many of you, in fact most, who read this blog that live all over the world. Please do whatever you can to create renewable energy. It is more for our children and grandchildren than ourselves. Let us have our ensuing generations sit around their solar or wind apparatus in the future and say how proud they were of us. How we did not give in to the mighty and made a green world for the many! Please, please, please get involved and make our planet green again! From my green heart to yours, Thomas
