Are we up for it?
Teilhard de Chardin had a wonderful quote that goes like this:“Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire. He said” “There is almost a sensual longing for communion with others who have a large vision. The immense fulfillment of the friendship between those engaged in furthering the evolution of consciousness has a quality impossible to describe.”
He is talking about us right now. And now is the time for us to take action. We are standing on the brink of a planet in trouble. There are seven and a half billion of us and the birthrate seems unstoppable. We have destroyed so many of our species in the last hundred years. In that same century, we have aged the Earth the same amount as the last forty thousand years. These numbers are astounding and at our current pace they will only accelerate.
Let us find those folks who have the big vision for humanity. It might be one of us who reads this blog. Let’s get involved in life in a way that transcends our limitations. Each of us gets to look inside our heart and decide whether we are part of the problem or the solution for our fragile spacecraft. I have shared on several occasions what many of us could do to help stem the onslaught of climate change. Check out the David Suzuki Foundation for the ten ways you can stop climate change. Create a way that we can save this amazing planet for our children and their children. To paraphrase an old Pogo quote: let’s say ” we have met our hero and it is Us!” Let us harness the energies of love and discover the fire that lights our hearts and saves our home.
