To Love and be Loved
The essence of life in human form is simple. We all want to love and be loved. This simple desire outplays in about seven billion different ways. When we are born we are generally surrounded by those who love us. We can feel their caring. As we move through life we often lose this tender feeling. Sometimes the most innocent of events is interpreted by our minds as not being loved. Somehow we feel like we need to earn that tender feeling we felt at birth.
The magnificent Persian poet Hafiz said: Admit something: “Everyone you see, you say to them, “love me!” Of course, we do not say this out loud, otherwise someone would call the cops. Still, though, think about this, this great pull in us, to connect.” There was a Frank Sinatra song called “To Love and be Loved.” Here are the lyrics:
That’s what life’s – all about
Keeps the stars – coming out
What makes a sad heart sing – the birds take wingTo love – and be loved
That’s what living – is for
Makes me want you the more – the more we cling
Let others race – to the moon
Through time and space – to the moon
My goal is greater than this
To reach your lips – to share your kiss
To stay – in your arms
Is the dream – I pursue
To be sheltered – and safe – from the storm
To be cozy – and ever – so warm
And for always – to love
And be loved – by you
Sometimes we block our ability to love others and for them to love us. Many times we are “Looking for love in all the wrong places.” Many times, our loss of love of ourselves, allows us to do less than loving things. However, I encourage all of us to never give up on love. It is who we are. It is the eternal breath of life in Universe. It truly does make a sad heart sing and the birds take wing. It all begins with us knowing at our core that we all want the same thing: to love and be loved! From my loved and loving heart to yours, Thomas
