Looking for Space
Lou Ann and I are taking an evening break from remodeling our home. We are watching the movie “Passengers” It feels like us in a way. We are fixing up our little space ship and making it ready for many more voyages with lot’s of wonderful people. Our plot is not anywhere near the same as the movie. It just feels “funny” in the house when we tear out a whole area of carpeting down to the bare floor. It feels like a new environment on some other planet where we have never been. We have only watched an hour, so I don’t know how the film will develop. Here on our spaceship, every day seems to be a new adventure. Many of them, not much fun. Then we complete a major project and it feels like we are closer to our destination on some new shore. We have been at this remodel for six and a half months now. So you can see that for me it feels like a long voyage.
The title of this blog is, of course, another John Denver song. Here are the lyrics:
“Looking For Space”
Sometimes I wish that I could fly away.
When I think that I’m moving, suddenly things stand still.
I’m afraid cause I think they always will.
And I’m looking for space and to find out who I am, and I’m looking to know and understand.
It’s a sweet, sweet dream, sometimes I’m almost there.
Sometimes I fly like an eagle and sometimes I’m deep in despair. All alone in the universe, sometimes that’s how it seems.
I get lost in the sadness and the screams.
Then I look in the center and suddenly everything’s clear.
I find myself in the sunshine and my dreams
And I’m looking for space and to find out who I am, and I’m looking to know and understand.
It’s a sweet, sweet dream, sometimes I’m almost there.
Sometimes I fly like an eagle and sometimes I’m deep in despair. On the road of experience, join in the living day.
If there’s an answer it’s just that it’s just that way,
When you’re looking for space and to find out who you are.
When you’re looking to try and reach the stars.
It’s a sweet, sweet dream, sometimes I’m almost there.
Sometimes I fly like an eagle and sometimes I’m deep in despair. That is how life is for me. Sometimes I fly like an eagle and sometimes I’m deep in despair. Although I spend way more time flying than despairing. And perhaps despair is too harsh a description of the times in my life when things aren’t going well. This is a song around the time John was attending EST training. It is about going into the center of our own journey and discovering the clarity of who we are. I invite you all to be looking for space to find out who you are. I wish you endless flights with the Eagles and very few times in despair. From my heart to yours, Thomas
